In the native town of Honourable Wunmi Olubunmi Ogunlola, Ijero-Ekiti, Ekiti State southwest Nigeria a peaceful protest shut down activities of the town on the evening of Sunday, May 29 till Tuesday, May 31 morning until they were pacified by the leaders of thought in the community.
At Aramoko-Ekiti, the supporters of Honourable Dele Phillips, another House of Representatives aspirant who came second in the primary election stormed the streets of the town in large numbers to say “No to Imposition of Honourable Biodun Omoleye as the House of Representatives Candidate.”
The protesters went to the APC State Party Secretariat at Ajilosun Street, Ado-Ekiti on Monday, May 30, in amidst tight security by policemen to ventilate their opinion.
The peaceful protesters told Ekiti Summit reporter that they would resist all attempts by the state APC party leaders to announce Honourable Biodun Omoleye as the winner of the primary because he is an unpopular aspirant that cannot win even his Ijurin half Ward in Ijero Local Government Area at the General Election under a free, fair and transparent election.
A delegate who spoke anonymously to the Ekiti Summit reporter on the ground said “the Governor of Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi had no hand in party primaries and the first lady, Erelu Bisi Adeleye-Fayemi is a supporter of gender equality and she values all the good work of Honourable Wunmi Ogunlola”.
The delegate also accused the party executives of working in favour of Honourable Biodun Omoleye, the former Chief of Staff to the Ekiti State Governor.
As at the afternoon of Sunday, June 1, members of the party in protest were demanding the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state to declare Honourable Wunmi Olubunmi Ogunlola (WOO) as the winner of the House of Representatives primaries held at Rosa Flora Hotel, Aramoko-Ekiti on Friday, May 28 in the interest of peace, justice, fair play and gender sensitivity.
The conveyer of #iRepWOO, Mr Femi Alufa in a statement declared, “There is a clarion call on women in politics to rescue this single seat out of six House of Representatives seat in Ekiti Federal Constituencies occupied by a woman at the National Assembly. Honourable Ogunlola’s return should be a consensus arrangement because she earned it, deserves it and even more. If need be for Election in Ekiti Central Federal Constituency 2 to determine APC candidates, we will most respectfully call on the leaders of our party across the board to look beyond sentiment and parochial interest, we all know what can really work to make our party win the next Governorship election in Ekiti State on June 18. Let us come to Honourable Wunmi Ogunlola’s aide. She has done well. Ekiti Central Federal Constituency 2 seat should not be turned to the House of War.”
It can be recalled that Honourable Ogunlola, the incumbent member of the Federal House of Representatives, Ekiti Central Federal Constituency 2 who polled the highest votes of 95 of the total 165 votes of the delegates at the Primaries before it was aborted when one Mr Femi Awe, the agent of another House of Representatives Aspirant and former Chief of Staff to the Ekiti State Governor, Honourable Biodun Omoleye who polled only 7 votes disrupted the proceedings.
