Ekiti Assembly passed Amendment Bill for LG Council Election

A Bill for the Amendment of the Ekiti State Independent Electoral Commission Law has been passed into Law at plenary on Tuesday, August 31, by the Ekiti State House of Assembly sitting in Ado- Ekiti the state capital, southwest of Nigeria.

The Bill sponsored by the Honourable Member representing Ekiti West Constituency II at the State House of Assembly, Honourable Johnson Oyekola Bode-Adeoye seeks amongst other things, to provide the necessary legal framework for the smooth operation of the Ekiti State Independent Electoral Commission in tandem with current developments in the Local Government Areas and the newly created Local Council Development Areas Administration in Ekiti State.

The Bill as passed into Law, also empowered the Ekiti State Independent Electoral Commission to conduct elections into all elective offices of the 16 Local Government Areas and the 19 Local Council Development Areas.

The Bill awaits the Governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi’s assent.
