The Senator representing Ekiti Central Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, has donated gifts to the League of Imams and Alfas to mark this year’s Eid-el-Kabir.
The lawmaker said the philanthropic gesture was geared towards giving the citizens a sense of belonging and preaching the gospel that all Ekiti are one, regardless of religious affiliations.
Bamidele, who spoke through his Senior Legislative Assistant, Bummi Oguntuase, in Ado-Ekiti the Ekiti State capital, on Friday, July 8 while distributing the materials, said a sum of N1.25 million was donated to Imams and Alfas in Ado, Irepodun/Ifelodun, Ijero, Efon and Ekiti West Local Governments.
Oguntuase added that five cows were also distributed to Muslim leaders across the councils, being part of the ways to celebrate the Muslims at Sallah and cushion the effect of the hard-biting economy on them.
“Senator Opeyemi Bamidele is a Christian, but he had just demonstrated that Nigerians must build religious tolerance to live peacefully and progress together.
“This is also to appreciate the Muslims for their steadfast and unwavering support for Senator Opeyemi Bamidele over the years. In fact, this was unqualifiable and can’t be taken for granted.
“On behalf of Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, we wish our Muslim adherents a happy celebration and we pray that the good Lord shall spare them to witness many more in life”.
