The Ijero Development Association (IDA) Health Committee has donated various medical equipment in large quantities to the State Specialist Hospital, Ijero in Ekiti State, southwest of Nigeria.
The project tagged “The Health Mission 2022”, which can be described as giving back to the community was indeed a landmark event which took place on Monday, August, 22 at the premises of the State Specialist Hospital, Ijero-Ekiti.
In attendance were top officials of Ekiti State Health Management Board from Ado Ekiti, HRM Owa Ajero represented by High Chief Layiwola Falodu, the Saade of Ijero Kingdom, Executive members of the IDA and distinguished personalities from the Ijero community.
In his address, the President of Ijero Development Association, Engineer Olaniyi Owoyomi welcomed everyone to the occasion, particularly the Permanent Secretary and her entourage from Ado Ekiti. He described the event as symbolic, adding that Ijero Development Association places so much importance on the health and wellness of the Ijero people.
The President highlighted major activities of the Association in health matters since its inception in 2019, which included; First Health Mission (2019), general check-ups carried out on Ijero people and recommendations given based on test results and health status.
Other activities were the donation of Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) during the Covid-19 pandemic, and Health Mission 2021; the Association carried out 34 cataract extractions and 3 pterygium removal free of charge. Also, about 100 pairs of eyeglasses were distributed to people with medical eye problems.
Engr Owoyomi appreciated the efforts of the Health Committee under the Chairmanship of Dr ‘Niyi Olatunji and prayed for more strength for the entire members of the Committee to do more.
His Royal Majesty, Oba Joseph Adebayo Adewole OFR, JP, the Owa Ajero of Ijero Ekiti, represented by High Chief Falodu Olayiwola, the Saade of Ijero Kingdom, expressed delight in the activities of the Health Committee and thanked the Association in general for their genuine quest for improved health and overall welfare of Ijero people. He urged the Government to continue assisting the Hospital, for it to be able to compete favourably with other Specialist Hospitals within and outside the state.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Health Committee, Dr Niyi Olatunji, in his speech tagged “Thanks and Appeal”, appreciated God for the gift of life and the enablement to donate to the Hospital. He also thanked the Association for calling him out of his closet to contribute to the development of the Ijero community.
Dr Olatunji who stated clearly, that he gathered the donated medical equipment, with the complete support of his wife and children, specifically appreciated Engr. Abiola Abe, who also donated some of the equipment. He called on governments at all levels to assist in critical areas like procurement of functional ambulances, and solar power supply, among others.
“I enjoin all Ijero sons and daughters, home and abroad to contribute their quotas to the development of IDA and Ijero. No contribution or amount is too small. Drops of water make a mighty ocean. Let us be genuine and generous in our giving because, God blesses and loves a cheerful giver”, he added.
The donated items were; Theatre kits, Tournicaine, Kidney dish (Plastic), Pen touch, Goggles, Catheters, Wheelchairs, Dressing material, Blood Pressure Apparatus (Electronic), Theatre lamp, Ultrasound machine, Walking stick (wooden), Walking stick (Iron), Endoscope, Operating microscope, Examination lamps, Suctioning machine and much more.
