Ekiti Historians tend to rate Fabunmi Oraralada of Okemesi -Ekiti as a great warrior who galvanized the Ekiti people against the Ibadan imperialists and fought for the freedom of Ekiti people in the historic Kiriji War which is otherwise known as the “Ekiti Parapo War”, the longest integral ethnic civil war in the history of the world from 1877 to 1893.
Fabunmi was an Ekiti Patriot and a great leader of the people.
Ekiti State was carved out of the old Ondo State on October 1st 1996 and this gave the state its identity as one of the 36 states of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. There is no way the history of the struggle for the creation of Ekiti State will be written or re-written without mentioning the names of the founding fathers like Chief Akin Omoboriowo, Aare Afe Babalola, SAN, Senator Bode Olowoporoku, Chief J. E. Babatola, Chief Deji Fasuan, Professor Banji Akintoye and Ekiti Royal Fathers like HRM Oba Rufus Adejugbe, Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, HRM Oba Emmanuel Aladejare, The Alaaye of Efon, HRM Oba Adebayo Adewole, The Ajero of Ijero kingdom, HRM Oba Edward Adedoja Oni, The Owa Ooye of Okemesi-Ekiti and several others leaders of the Ekiti State Creation Movement.
Mr Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, a young Lecturer at the Ondo State University, Ado-Ekiti (now Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti) joined the Ekiti State creation struggle and became the Assistant Secretary and later Secretary of the Ekiti State Creation Movement in 199 that culminated in the realization of the dream Ekiti State in 1996.
Mr Biodun Oyebanji would later serve as the Chief of Staff to the first Executive Governor of Ekiti State, Otunba Niyi Adebayo 1999-2003 and served as the Commissioner in the first tenure of Dr John Kayode Fayemi(JKF1.0) in 2010-2014 and Secretary to the State Government (SSG) in the second tenure of Dr John Kayode Fayemi (JKF2.0) from October 2018 to December 2021 when he resigned his political appointment to contest for the Governorship Primaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in January 2022 and eventually becomes the Governorship Flagbearer of the party in the build-up to the Ekiti Gubernatorial Poll of June 18, 2022.
Political pundits have consistently given Mr Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji (BAO) as a Brilliant, Accessible and Outstanding among the Governorship candidates of the Ekiti 2022 Poll. He also received the highest approval rating of any online and offline Poll conducted by independent researchers.
His Governorship candidature is the best thing to happen to Ekiti Politics as pundits have rated him as a home-baked and grown Governorship candidate which is a political phenomenon that Ekiti people have been yearning for in the governance of the State as people believe that the next Ekiti Governor in 2022 must be somebody who was born and bred in Ekiti and be a grassroots person who feels the pulse of the people. Mr Biodun Oyebanji among the many Governorship candidates qualifies eminently as he was born in Ekiti and lived in Ekiti from early primary education to the tertiary level. He had his first degree at the Ondo State University Ado-Ekiti (OSUA) now Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti (EKSU) and he is toasted as the first OSUAites to become the Governor of Ekiti State.
The second tenure of Dr John Kayode Fayemi will expire on October 16, 2022, and perhaps the most important thing to happen to any leadership is good succession and sustainability and this is why the Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji (BAO) Governorship will be the best for Ekiti people and especially the progressive politics in the State in transition to a good successor who will continue to carry the banner of sustaining the heritage and good legacy of the present administration.
Mr Biodun Oyebanji has given us a robust campaign and manifesto which is hinged on a six-cardinal point to take Ekiti State to the next frontiers of development “Together With You”.
On Saturday, June 18 as the good people of Ekiti State, the best thing we can do is to physically make ourselves at the Polling units with our permanent voter’s card (PVC) and vote for the All Progressives Congress (APC) the party with the symbol of broom on the ballot paper. This is the best thing to appreciate the scion of the great warrior Oluborode of Ikogosi-Ekiti, one of the great warriors of the EkitiParapo (Kiriji War) of the late 19th century who also rise on the shoulder of his ancestors and contribute his quota to the birth of Ekiti State in 1996.
In Ekiti local aphorism, it is said: “Omo ki e ga, ose re a tirin”, meaning a child that will grow tall, his legs will be thin. Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji’ (BAO) unveiled his manifesto on Tuesday 26th April 2022.” it was a scintillating signature combining years of initiation, interaction, idealization and integration in community engagement and governance.”
Will Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji (BAO) be a good Governor of Ekiti State? I think he will be through his antecedents as a typical “Omoluabi Ekiti” ( an epitome of Ekiti virtues and values)and much more than that and certainly has the potential to be one of Ekiti’s best governors. To me, he epitomized all of Ekiti’s dreams of a promised land. The task is for us, as lovers of democracy and governance, progressive continuity and EkitiParapoism, to let BAO win the Ekiti Governorship Election on Saturday, June 18, 2022, and be the political heir of John Kayode Fayemi (JKF 2.0 administration) to sustain to the heritage and that progressives continuity of good governance in our beautiful State on the hills like Lagos the centre of excellence; to seize that promise.
BAO will restore our values and continue to reclaim the land of Honour on a Hill that is called Ekiti as history beckons with us on June 18, 2022, in Ekiti State with the power of our thumb.
