Protest Persist Amidst Cultural Festivities at Ijero-Ekiti


The Ogun Festival enters the fifth day on Wednesday, August 18 and in the midst of the crowd our reporter on the streets of the Ijero metropolis, Ekiti state southwest of Nigeria could still see some youths carrying protest placards.

With loud music blaring in the air and in the midst of the traditional lead masquerade popularly known by the people as Ako Egun running along with its followers carrying long sticks and lashing themselves with it; some youths managed to stage a “masquerade protest”.

It can be recalled on Monday, August 16, various groups came out in mass to express their minds in a peaceful protest which had the presence of heavily armed law enforcement officers.
